Joshua from Axcis Liverpool Steps Up to Raise Funds For Family Fund Charity

As part of our Charity of the Year partnership with Family Fund, we’re excited to support Axcis team member Joshua Halliday as he prepares to run a marathon to raise funds for families raising disabled or seriously ill children.

Family Fund provides vital grants and practical support to thousands of families each year, and Joshua is helping ensure even more can benefit. Every pound raised will be matched by Axcis, doubling the difference your donation can make.

If you’re able to support Joshua’s efforts through a donation or by sharing his page, it will go a long way in helping families who rely on Family Fund’s work.

Axcis Liverpool Branch Manager training to run in the Rome marathon to raise funds for children in care

Every year we choose a Charity of the Year to partner with to raise much needed funds for their cause. This year, we’ve been supporting Become, who provide an invaluable service to children and young adults in care or who are care experienced.

Our Liverpool Branch Manager, Kirsten, has taken the fundraising challenge to the next level and has taken the brave decision to enter herself into the Rome marathon, which will take place on the 17th March 2024.

CLICK HERE TO SUPPORT KIRSTEN’S FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

Here we find out a little bit about Kirsten’s training journey so far and why she’s decided to set herself such a big fundraising challenge:

What made you decide to run a marathon to raise funds for Become?

I’d previously ran a half marathon for charity and managed to raise a decent amount of money but thought I should really push myself again and see if I can raise even more by doing double the distance and Become are a very worthwhile charity that we have worked closely with this year so it felt only right to choose them!

Why do you think the work Become does for care and care experienced people is so important?

I think the on-going coaching they can provide, as well as the advice line, is really important as it gives people an outlet who otherwise would potentially have nobody to turn too. In addition to this, the community they have created seems very beneficial and allows people to speak to others who can truly empathise and are going through similar situations.

Have you run a marathon before?

No! And it’s touch and go whether I will again… let’s see how this one goes. I have done 3 half marathons though previously.

Why choose the Rome marathon?

I felt as though if I was going to do a marathon I might as well do it in a place that I actually want to go to, so somewhere where I can make a little city break out of it too! Also, there is a pizza party after the marathon and runners get free pizza I believe so, need I say anymore?

What training have you been doing?

I do 3 x runs a week, one long one at the weekend, a short interval style one and then an additional one which is usually between 5 – 10km at a faster pace than my long one. In addition to this I try to strength train once a week and go to two gym classes so I’m generally training 6 x a week in one capacity or another.

Aside from the physical benefits or running, in what other ways do you think running benefits you personally?

I LOVE being outside, when I’m not running I am often walking my dog in the countryside or horse-riding and I just feel that being outside is so good for your mental health. I think running is also really good, especially when you run alone, to build up your mental strength and resilience – it’s as much of a mental battle as it is physical.

Any tips for wannabe marathon runners out there?

It might be better to answer this when I’ve completed it, but I think, just go for it, make your training plan, try to stick to it, give yourself plenty of time to build up your distance and commit! 😊

If you wish to support Kirsten’s fundraising efforts, please click here to donate to her JustGiving page.

Axcis Education is delighted to announce their extended partnership with nasen

Axcis Education is delighted to announce their extended partnership with nasen, the National Association for Special Educational Needs. The extended three-year partnership which will run until 2027, will see Axcis continue their headline sponsorship of nasen.

As leaders in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) recruitment, we feel that it’s important to demonstrate our commitment to the sector. That’s why we have long-standing relationships with nasen and have supported many other charitable organisations and events over the years. We do this because we know how vital the work these organisations do is for young people as well as their families and the wider community – and they can’t do this without financial help. That’s where we (and of course their other supporters) come in.

nasen is a charitable organisation that exists to support and champion those working with, and for, children and young people with SEND and learning differences. It seeks to ensure that all education practitioners across early years, schools, post-16, and wider settings are equipped to understand, identify, and support those with SEND and learning differences.

The charity is currently reaching 77% of schools in England and has over 100,000 members from SENCOs, senior leaders, teachers and TAs to local authorities, Trustees, Governors and those with a professional interest in SEND.

To find out more about the work nasen do, please click on the logo below.

Speaking about the partnership, Annamarie Hassall MBE, Chief Executive of nasen said:

“Over the last 32 years, nasen have been committed to providing the most effective and relevant support for all those working with children and young people with SEND.

We are delighted to continue this partnership with Axcis and know that with our mutual interest in the workforce for schools and settings, this is a beneficial relationship for nasen, for the sector and most of all, for children and young people. With their continued support through sponsorship, we can continue to provide up to the minute resources for education professionals working within the SEND sector”.

Paul Gold, CEO of Axcis Education said:

“We are thrilled to confirm the extension of our partnership with nasen, until 2027 and continue to support the fantastic work they are doing within SEND across the entire education spectrum”.

Team Manchester 10k Charity Run

Congratulations to our Manchester team for completing The Great Manchester 10k Run for our Annual Charity of the Year - Become!

Become is a charity for children in care and care leavers. For 30 years they’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with children in care and young care leavers, helping them get the support they need. Whether this be ongoing coaching, advice on everyday situations, supporting the transition from leaving the care system, providing the opportunity to meet other care-experienced young people and share experiences, or just provide a friendly voice at the end of the phone, Become offer an invaluable service to so many people.

As part of our fundraising efforts for Become, some of our Manchester team chose to run The Great Manchester 10k Run. See what some of them had to say about taking on this feat below.

Rachel:

“Having sat in on Alexandra’s presentation on Become, I could instantly see the importance of this charity and how desperately their services are needed. I went straight back to the team and invited them to join me on what has grown to be Team MCR’s biggest fundraising push. Become has some incredible statistic which has shown us just how much we need to bring awareness to their work and we really wanted to help make an impact on that. Being the Manchester office, it made sense for the team to take on one of the city’s biggest run events. We have had an amazing response to our fundraising effort and lots of support for the run.
I am personally, really looking forward to the run. It has been a long time since I have done an event like this and it will be really special to share the achievement with my team. The training is going well and I even went on tour to complete Morecambe Park Run as part of my training.”

Danielle:

“I’m excited to run alongside team MCR and enjoy the day. I will hopefully be running a marathon the weekend before, so going to try and take the run easy on the day and enjoy it. It is for such a worthy cause, having had friends who have been in care. Become do great things for young people, and we want to help them as much as possible in keeping up the amazing work they do!”

Tom:

“I am really looking forward to Manchester 10K and proud to be running it on behalf of Become with my lovely colleagues. Since having our second daughter last May, I have struggled to find the motivation to get my runners on and pound the pavement; but this opportunity has really given me the boost and drive to make running a part of my life again. Team MCR are looking forward to raising lots of vital funds for Become to support the amazing work they do for looked after children.”

Tom trying to look like he enjoyed the training period!

Axcis presents fundraising proceeds to 2022 annual charity of the year - Dogs for Good

As leaders in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) recruitment, we have always believed in demonstrating our commitment to the sector. That’s why we have long-standing relationships with nasen (National Association for Special Educational Needs) and have supported other charitable organisations and events on and off over the years. We do this because we know how vital the work these organisations do is for young people with SEND as well as their families and the wider community – and they can’t do this without financial help. That’s where we (and of course their other sponsors) come in.

As part of our dedication to the SEND sector, we are also aware that the bigger charities often attract the lion’s share of the attention when it comes to fundraising and public attention. As such, we choose one charity a year to support with fundraising efforts. So when we came across Dogs for Good and the wonderful work they do, we felt that as a smaller charity we could not only support financially, but help to put a spotlight on as well.

We proudly managed to raise a total of £2513.12 which we were very lucky to present to the cute bundle of joy that is Mya, and her handler, Andy, too!

Dogs for Good is a wonderful charity that provide assistance and support dogs to children and adults with a range of special needs and disabilities. The dogs help at home, work and in the community where they help improve independence, wellbeing and life skills.

If you are keen to support a small, grassroots charity that works tirelessly to support the SEND community then please do consider donating to Dogs for Good here.

Axcis Annual Charity 2023: Become

At Axcis, we are proud long-term supporters of nasen (the National Association for Special Educational Needs). But from 2020, we have also been nominating an additional annual charity to support with our fundraising efforts. This year we have chosen to support ‘Become’. But who are they and why have we chosen to support them?

Why does Axcis support charities?

As leaders in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) recruitment, we feel that it’s important to demonstrate our commitment to the sector. That’s why we have long-standing relationships with nasen and have supported other charitable organisations and events on and off over the years. We do this because we know how vital the work these organisations do is for young people as well as their families and the wider community – and they can’t do this without financial help. That’s where we (and of course their other sponsors) come in.

Why Become in 2023?

We chose Become because we want to support a smaller charity alongside the national organisations we are already working with. We are aware that the bigger charities often attract the lion’s share of the attention when it comes to fundraising and public attention. So when we found out about Become and the wonderful work they are doing, we felt that this was a smaller charity that we could not only support financially, but help to put a spotlight on in 2023, too.

Who are Become?

Become is a charity for children in care and care leavers. For 30 years they’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with children in care and young care leavers, helping them get the support they need. Whether this be ongoing coaching, advice on everyday situations, supporting the transition from leaving the care system, providing the opportunity to meet other care-experienced young people and share experiences, or just provide a friendly voice at the end of the phone, Become offer an invaluable service to so many people.

What will Axcis be doing to support Become in 2023?

We will be doing a range of internal fundraising activities aimed at raising money for Become throughout 2023. From bake sales and dress-down days to bucket collecting, meme the boss competitions, draws to win free lunches (on the company of course) and much, much more. The aim of the game is to get each team actively involved in activities to raise funds, as well as awareness about the charity. Axcis will then DOUBLE the amount raised at the end of the year before presenting Become with what we hope will be a sizable cheque!

Make your own donation or get involved

If this is the first time you’ve heard about Become and you’d like to get involved or make your own donation, you can do so via their website.

Are you seeking SEND work or staff?

But who are they and why have we chosen to support them?

Why does Axcis support SEND charities?

As leaders in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) recruitment, we feel that it’s important to demonstrate our commitment to the sector. That’s why we have long-standing relationships with the National Autistic Society and nasen and have supported other charitable organisations and events on and off over the years. We do this because we know how vital the work these organisations do is for young people with SEND as well as their families and the wider community – and they can’t do this without financial help. That’s where we (and of course their other sponsors) come in.

Why Dogs for Good in 2022?

We chose Dogs for Good because we want to support a smaller charity alongside the national organisations we are already working with. We are aware that the bigger charities often attract the lion’s share of the attention when it comes to fundraising and public attention. So when we found out about Dogs for Good and the wonderful work they are doing, we felt that this was a smaller charity that we could not only support financially, but help to put a spotlight on in 2022, too.

Who are Dogs for Good?

Dogs for Good is a charity which finds help and adventure for disabled children and their families through the support of furry friends. They do this by working with and helping to provide assistance dogs, community dogs and also family dogs across the UK. They help children and vulnerable adults with a range of disabilities to help promote independent living and have found that children on the autistic spectrum have responded particularly well. They have some useful video links and success stories available to find out more if you wish.

What will Axcis be doing to support Dogs for Good in 2022?

We will be doing a range of internal fundraising activities aimed at raising money for Dogs for Good throughout 2022. From bake sales and dress-down days to bucket collecting, meme the boss competitions, draws to win free lunches (on the company of course) and much, much more. The aim of the game is to get each team actively involved in activities to raise funds, as well as awareness about the charity. Axcis will then DOUBLE the amount raised at the end of the year before presenting Dogs for Good with what we hope will be a sizable cheque!

Make your own donation or get involved

If this is the first time you’ve heard about Dogs for Good and you’d like to get involved or make your own donation, you can do so via their website.

Are you seeking SEND work or staff?

If you’re looking for a SEND teaching or support job in England or Wales, why not register with Axcis, the SEND recruitment specialists? Or perhaps you need to recruit staff for your school or provision? If so, why not take a look at the Axcis Website, or get in touch today to find out how we can help?
